Building expertise and exploiting the potential within the existing partner network are two key elements in the SSHOC project.

With the eventual aim of creating a definitive SSHOC Train the Trainer Toolkit and establishing the SSHOC Training Network, initial activities by the team responsible for “Fostering Communities, Empowering Users & Building Expertise” include:

  • Mapping the SSH landscape
  • Gap analysis
  • Organising training events and workshops
  • Identifying potential training nodes
  • Creating learning materials

SSHOC Train the Trainer Toolkit

The purpose envisaged for the SSHOC Train the Trainer Toolkit is to provide a coherent set of organized training materials in the form of individual learning objects, modules, and full learning paths designed to optimize the use of the tools, services, and data available in SSHOC and in the EOSC as a whole. Special attention will be paid to the materials suitable for transferring knowledge across disciplines and communities.

Work undertaken will expand and further develop the training hubs already in existence amongst the project partners. These include the CESSDA Knowledge Platform and Expert Tour Guide, and the PARTHENOS training suite.

Materials developed will be hosted initially in the training hub on one of the partner websites and gradually transferred to the Marketplace together with independently created and still-to-be-identified material currently residing on platforms such as Github, C-PAN, C-RAN, The Programming Historian, and FOSTER.

SSHOC Training Community

Using the “hub-and-spoke” bootcamp approach which has proven effective in European initiatives and projects such as CESSDA Training Working Group, FOSTER Plus, and OpenAIRE 2020, the SSHOC Train the Trainer Toolkit will be showcased at workshops to be held  with training organizations in pre-selected national nodes. In this way, a consistent, coordinated and cross-disciplinary approach will be encouraged.

A further outcome from these activities will be a Europe-wide directory of certified trainers.
