An EOSC Event at RDA Helsinki Plenary: an integral part of the EOSC Stakeholder Forum

22 October 2019, 09:00 – 17:00, Helsinki, Finland

Organised by EOSCSecretariat.eu in collaboration with the Research Data Alliance (RDA)

Purpose & Scope

One year on the launch of EOSC, this timely event wishes to provide a voice to the research data community of stakeholders in a global setting on the European Open Science Cloud progress and early results. The EOSC Executive and Governance Boards have been working hard to shape practical engagement plans, this event wishes to have an exchange between the different players to provide some preliminary results on the Working Group activities as well as to receive feedback and comments from the participants to highlight future priorities.

Therefore, during a one day interactive forum, the agenda will evolve to cover topics around the EOSC Governance Vision and Roadmap, as well as updates from the five Working Groups which are: ArchitectureLandscapeFAIRSustainabilityRules of Participation. Moreover, taking advantage of the international dimension of the event, representatives from the Governance board will offer their national perspectives and agendas around research data to collect feedback and share lessons learned with representatives from other regions .

All the input received is two-fold, it will firstly help the EOSC governance to set future priorities and secondly it may serve as assessing what potential, new topics can be fed into RDA Working Groups to address the international aspects for EOSC. All the feedback received will be also used to shape the EOSC Symposium event, taking place on 26-28 November 2019, in Budapest, Hungary.

Who should attend?

European and international research data practitioners, all EOSC family related projects, research and academic institutions, policy makers, funding agencies to assess future priorities and challenges for EOSC.

Main take-aways for the participants

EOSC services collaborations and RDA

In preparation for the joint event between EOSC and RDA a specific panel on EOSC services collaboration and RDA will take place on 21 October. This event will bring together the communities of the EOSC cluster projects and the Research Data Alliance. Presentations and discussions will evolve around the commonalities and potential collaborations on community research data management solutions.

All the ESFRI clusters share the same goal of federating their communities by designing the research data life cycles that meet their communities’ needs, by building a common set of services fully integrated in the EOSC infrastructure and aligned with standards (in particular with the FAIR principles). Nevertheless, these five cluster projects don’t have the same level of structuration with regard to the coherence of their services or solutions offer, so this event aims to discuss the community specific solutions registry. The focus will be on the technical, social and governance aspects that each of the cluster projects are addressing as well as RDA Working and Interest Groups.
